Ben Short

Mayor of Trussville

Mayor Short is a dedicated public servant who has been a part of the Trussville community since 2003. He began his career with the Trussville Police Department in 2011, gaining valuable experience as a police officer, detective, and public information officer. He also served as Trussville’s representative to the Jefferson County Metro Area Crime Center. In 2020, Ben was elected to the Trussville City Council and in 2025 Ben was elected as Mayor where he continues to advocate for the needs of the community. Ben holds degrees in Criminal Justice, Public Relations, and Forensic Psychology. Mayor Short is a certified Alabama Planning and Zoning Official and a proud graduate of Leadership Trussville (Class Two). He previously served as the council liaison to the Planning and Zoning Board, Design Review Committee, Active Transportation Committee and the Finance Committee.

As a city employee, before joining the city council, Ben developed a deep understanding of local governance and law enforcement. After his election, he took on a role as an investigator with the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. Ben has served on the grant management teams for various Department of Justice projects and has extensive experience working with local, state, and federal agencies. He is passionate about sharing his knowledge and frequently volunteers his time to teach criminal justice professionals across Alabama. Additionally, Ben has served on the Board of Directors for the Trussville Children’s Theater and as the President of the Police Benevolent Association (PBA) for Jefferson County.

Ben and his wife Amanda are proud small business owners and through their companies they provide support to local students and engage in various philanthropic efforts to give back to the community.

Married for 17 years, Ben and Amanda are the proud parents of two children and attend church at Faith Community Fellowship. Their commitment to family and community drive Ben’s desire to enhance the quality of life in Trussville.
