Jason Gaston


Jason Gaston has served as Public Relations Supervisor for Trussville City Schools since 2020. In this district-wide role, he manages most internal and external communication processes for the school system. Gaston joined Trussville City Schools – one of the state’s fastest-growing school systems – to engineer and build out the school system’s communication framework – with an overall goal of delivering timely, accurate, transparent communication to all stakeholders. He is internationally accredited in Public Relations (APR) and has been a part of numerous local, state, and national boards over the course of his two decades in communications and media. Gaston served on the national executive board of the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) and has twice been named president of the Alabama School Public Relations Association (ALSPRA). He has also been a part of NSPRA’s Diversity & Equity Task Force and is a current NSPRA Mentor. Prior to his time in Trussville, Gaston held a similar role in Hoover City Schools for almost fourteen years. In Hoover, Gaston was Hoover City Schools’ Employee of the Year (2018) and captured several awards for his public relations processes over the course of his tenure. He is an alumnus of Leadership Hoover’s (LH) 2018-2019 Class and served as Education Day Chair for LH. Prior to K12 public relations, Gaston was a TV news reporter and anchor at various television stations, most notably ABC 33/40 where he won an Associated Press (AP) Award for breaking news coverage. Gaston, a Birmingham-area native, holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication & Broadcasting from Freed-Hardeman University and a Master of Science in Strategic Communication from Troy University.
